Doing yoga isn't dependant on having special shoes or a lot of gear, but there are a few things that can make your practice more beneficial (such as props) or your life easier (such as yoga mat bags). Get a run down on the yoga gear possibilites and decide for yourself what is essential for your life in yoga.

I really agree with you and I proactively use the props for my own practice as well as for my senior students. Other modification I’ve learned recently for Salabasana is using bolster under knees, also use swissball (from plank to locust). These modification are effective especially for beginners and people who have limited strength in lower extremity. I know - not many Yoga teacher use swissball (it’s also called Yogaball) but I find they are good prop to use !
