Yoga Poses for Strength

Weight-bearing yoga poses will improve your strength and muscle tone.

  • Poses for Abs:
    Poses that will improve your abdominal strength include balances, because the core must be engaged for these poses.


  • Poses for Arms: Arm balances will strengthen the triceps and biceps, giving these muscles greater definition.
  • Poses for Legs: Most standing poses improve leg strength. Practicing these poses will tone the quads and calf muscles.

    I am someone who has been doing strength training for a few years and has just recently discovered the potential of yoga as a one stop shop for strength, flexibility, endurance, and cardiovascular health as well as the amazing physiological and psychological benefits seen in yoga that are not seen in some other types of exercise. I found this site be very useful for examples of “power yoga” poses. i was also curious if you knew any where i could find poses to focus on chest strength. even if not, some of the arm poses are useful for this and again i say kudos for this great compilation of info.
