Yoga Tunes

Often, your yoga teacher is also playing dj. Some students think music in yoga classes is distracting, while others find the rhythms help them with breathing and clearing the mind of thoughts. Let us know what you prefer.

(1) Debra says:

I am a Yoga teacher, and I carefully mix my music to create a beautiful and harmonious class flow. My music is soft at the beginning to come into the breath, increasing in tempo for the work phase, and very peaceful and serene for deep stretches and Savasana. My students love the variety of music that I play and many ask where they can buy the music for their home practice. Music can greatly enhance or hinder a Yoga class.

I’m always looking for good music to play during my private practice; if anyone would like to share their playlists, I’d love to see them!

i love all types of music, and i tried a few different things while doing yoga, when a friend of mine suggested hardcore metal, and as strange as it sounds, i love it.

(4) Ann says:

Some people may find music distracting, but what I find distracting are those people in class who breathe and grunt like they’re playing pro tennis or who occasionally pass some loud gas.

I’d much prefer the “distraction” of music to drown out those other noises.
