Standing Straddle Forward Bend - Prasarita Padottanasana Is the Yoga Pose of the Week

Sunday October 5, 2008
I find this wide-legged forward bend to be more forgiving than uttanasana, which is done with the feet together. For this reason, it is often preferred by the hamstring challenged. For a really nice stretch, walk your hands out a few feet and take it in to a wide-legged downward dog. Feel free to groan.

Hi Ann! I was just reading about tight hamstrings, and how students tend to point the feet out in forward bends, to avoid the tighter inner hamstrings and put most of the stretch in the looser outer hamstring. So this variation makes a lot of sense for tight hamstrings!
