I finally made it to a mom and baby yoga class this week and it felt so good to be back! The stars aligned: my older child was at preschool, I was caught up on work projects, got a reasonable amount of sleep the previous night, my nine-week-old baby finally seemed ready, so we headed over to the local yoga studio. The class was packed, mostly with babies around six-months old. I had hoped my baby would sleep through at least part of the class and things looked promising when she dozed off nursing just before the class started. She woke up as soon as I put her down in her car seat, however, and I feared she would start to cry and need to be picked up, but she was happy just to sit and watch the action. She got a little fussy at one point so I moved her over to the blanket I had set up at the front of my mat and she spent the rest of the class there except for a few times where I could pick her up and include her in the stretches. Yay baby! Nothing sucks like paying $15 to sit and nurse your baby for an hour in front of strangers so I was so glad she let me get some yoga in. The yoga was basic, but that's fine because I feel pretty out of shape. I really enjoy the community in these classes, where everyone compares baby notes and gets reacquainted with their body. This classes even included a few minutes to walk to babies around and socialize about midway through and a few baby stretches at the end, both of which were nice touches. I can't wait to go back!
