One-Legged King Pigeon Pose - Eka Pada Rajakapotasana Is the Pose of the Week

Sunday June 28, 2009
For me, pigeon is a pose that really brings out the differences between my right and left hip. On the left side, my hip comes nicely to the floor just like it should. On the right side, no way Jose. I actually need to use a folded blanket as a prop under the right side. When you discover these things about your body, try to just recognize the difference and definitely don't force the recalcitrant side to match its more talented counterpart.

This image shows the more advanced version of the pose. Before attempting this pose, warm up with preparatory poses like sukhasana, square pose, baddha konasana, upavistha konasana and even downward dog and some sun salutations to warm the body up. Once warm, pigeon pose is a powerful hip opener and yes, I agree, it shows very clearly the differences between the left and the right. namaste.
