I'm going to say up front that I'm not really a yoga skirt kind of person. For practice, I favor capri pants that are fitted, but not skin-tight. I cannot imagine going to class in leggings so tight that I felt the need to cover my butt before venturing back into society. Yet, apparently, there is a market for butt-covering après yoga skirts, and the need is being filled, cheekily, by meSheeky.

Not My Style

Let me backtrack to say that it's not entirely clear whether the meSheeky skirts are meant to hide your butt or highlight it. If you read Yoga Journal, you have undoubtedly seen their ads featuring the tiny Trixie skirt worn over pants, with the model's bottom thrust toward the camera. If bringing attention to your butt is the object, I understand this product even less, since the tight pants underneath should do the trick.

The last time I wore a mini skirt of any kind was in high school, in a decade that shall not be named but rhymes with The Hades. As we explain to our young daughter when she inquires why Daddy does not wear earrings and nail polish, short skirts are not my style. This has everything to do with my age (middle) and level of modesty/prudishness (high).

The Trixie "Skirt"

Nonetheless, I consider all yoga products, however ill-suited to my personality, to be my purview, so when I decided to check out meSheeky's products in person, I did so with as open a mind as possible. When I tried on the Trixie skirt, my husband thoughtfully remarked that it was not as ridiculous as he had feared. Until I turned around, that is. Because, inexplicably and thoroughly outside the bounds of reason, this tiny scrap of a "skirt" (hat tip to Bridget Jones's Diary), has ruching down what can only be described as the butt crack. Who wants to go around town with a facsimile of their butt crack on the outside of their clothing? It is, frankly, horrifying. While this is the signature meSheeky look, they do make other, equally small skirts without the offending ruching. Should you find yourself in need of a piece of fabric to wrap around your hips, I suggest you avail yourself of that option. Strongly.

The Ava Skirt

Luckily for prudes, there is a meSheeky skirt that I can actually see myself wearing: the Ava comes down just below the knee, is cut in a flattering A-line and has a funky asymmetrical waist band that is ruched, but in a good way. This, I can wear. I can even see throwing it in my yoga bag to change into after class if I was headed out to dinner instead of to the grocery store. As far as sizing goes, while the skirts don't exactly run small, they do run clingy. If you have child-bearing hips, consider ordering a size up. Whether you want to cover up or accentuate (the company's tag line), well, I'll leave that up to you.
