If ever there was a project with its heart in the right place, the Titans of Yoga DVD is it. This video debuted in September, 2010, in celebration of National Yoga Month. The purpose of both National Yoga Month and the Titans DVD is to inspire, educate, and raise awareness about yoga. To this end, the DVD features 25 modern masters of yoga speaking about their personal journeys in finding their yoga practice, what it means to them, and what it could mean to you. In addition, proceeds from the sale of the DVD benefit Yoga Recess, which provides yoga DVDs to schools.
Who Are the Titans?
It's always interesting to see people speak passionately and biographically about their field of expertise, and this group is no exception. To its credit, the Titans include the leaders of the most prominent American yoga movements: Jivamukti founders David Life and Sharon Gannon, Anusara founder John Friend, Forrest Yoga's Ana Forrest, Power Yoga innovator Bryan Kest, and Kundalini teacher Gurmukh Khalsa. In addition, anyone who reads Yoga Journal will be excited about the appearance of Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, Dharma Mittra (blink and you'll miss him!), Vinnie Marino, David Swenson, and Lilias Folan. To be honest, I had to Google a few of the less prominent Titans, but that in no way diminishes their contributions. You can order the DVD, but a screening seems like a better option, since while the subjects of the film cover how yoga has affected them as individuals, joining the yoga community is another great benefit of the modern incarnation of this ancient practice.
