Iamplify.com is a website that sells downloadable audio files for your mp3 player or computer on a variety of topics, including yoga. When you play the audio file, it's like having a yoga teacher in your living room.
Content is Excellent
The audio options on iamplify.com include yoga classes for practitioners of all levels. Many of the teachers are quite well-known, including Sara Ivanhoe, Kimberly Fowler, and Adrienne Burke. I have taken (and loved) Adrienne's classes in New York, so it was interesting to see how the audio recording compared to her real live classes. Overall, I found the quality to be very good. Adrienne's excellent descriptions of how to do the poses and her encouraging tone both translated well.
I found I preferred an audio format to the videos I have tried. It feels more like you are receiving personal instruction. However, since there are no visuals some familiarity with the poses is necessary.
Technical Issues
The iamplify.com website is cumbersome to navigate. If you click on "Yoga" in the index, the page you get only seems to offer five different programs. However, clicking on these will reveal more options. One of the classes I sampled had some editing issues, whereby one section of the recording was repeated twice.
It is also nearly impossible to do yoga while wearing an ipod or other mp3 player, so you will need an alternate way to play these audio files. If you have speakers for your ipod or computer, that would be great, or you can burn a CD to play on your stereo.
Quick and Affordable
The audio files I sampled took five to ten minutes each to download. There are options available for as little as five dollars, a great value since you can listen to them over and over.
