My Favorite Pose

Poet's Pose

Why I Love It

It took me a while to master Half Moon pose. After successfully doing that pose (and noticing that my hand was naturally coming up off the ground) my instructor directed me to try and master Poet's Pose. I love the strength that comes out of my opened hips and fully extended leg. I feel powerful when releasing my hand from the floor and gracefully holding my hand in half prayer to my chest. The world just falls away for those 10 breaths on each side.

Advice

  • Don't force Poet's pose. You have to feel very comfortable with a fully extended half moon pose before you pick up your hand. One side may also be stronger and less shaky than the other.

Ann Pizer, Yoga Guide, says:

Poet's pose is a variation on half moon pose in which the bottom hand is lifted from the floor and brought into the chest. Follow this link for more info on half moon pose.
