Question: What's the Best Music for Yoga?
You can practice yoga listening to just about any music you like -- or you can listen to no music at all and practice in silence. If you are trying to come up with a playlist for home practice, think about what kinds of music you've enjoyed in past yoga classes. If one of your teachers makes great playlists, (and many teachers do put a lot of time and thought into their selections), ask them for some recommendations. I like everything from Icelandic pop to traditional chanting: Feel free to mix them up.
For a kirtan-influenced soundtrack you might check out popular contemporary singers Krishna Das, Wah!, Wade Imre Morrisette, Jai Uttal, or Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band, among many others.
Festival favorites MC Yogi and Michael Franti offer more hip-hop and reggae influenced options. But don't feel like you have to stick to sanctioned yoga artists. You can pick whatever music suits your mood.
